Man hit by Metro train on track dies
A MAN, who entered the tracks of Metro Line 2 on early Saturday morning, was hit by an empty train on a test run and died on the way to hospital, the Metro police have confirmed.
Metro operations had not started when the incident happened about 5am on Saturday.
Shanghai Metro said the man was a scavenger. He walked his bike onto the tracks between Chuansha and Middle Huaxia Road stations in Pudong.
This section of tracks is above the ground. The Metro operator said the man forcibly entered the tracks and even though the train driver applied the brakes hard it was too late. The collision could not be avoided.
The incident, however, didn’t affect the subway operations when they began.
