Man jailed for slapping cop

A DRUNKEN man who slapped a policeman was sentenced to three months in prison for obstructing an officer, Jing'an District People's Court ruled yesterday.

The incident occurred when Zhang Gang drank a bottle of liquor with his friend in a restaurant on Zhongshan Road N. and then drank 12 glasses of wine in a bar on Tongren Road in Jing'an District on July 18.

After drinking so much alcohol, Zhang became irrational and he struggled to walk and forced a waiter to talk to him, the court heard.

Zhang punched the waiter in the face after he ignored him. The waiter then reported to the police.

Officers escorted Zhang out of the bar. He then refused to get into the police car and slapped a policeman in the face.

The court gave Zhang a lenient sentence because he pleaded guilty. Those convicted of obstructing an officer can be jailed for up to three years.
