Man loses court case over scooter
A MAN who took the city鈥檚 traffic police to court after his unregistered scooter was seized has lost his case, the Shanghai Railway Transport Court said yesterday.
The man, surnamed Zhu, was riding an electric scooter in Putuo District last November when he was stopped. Police seized the bike and said he would get it back after the matter was resolved with transport authorities within 15 days.
Zhu went to court arguing that as the scooter was for entertainment, there was no law saying it had to be registered.
The court said Zhu had violated road traffic regulations, which stipulate any vehicles except bicycles on the road need to be registered. Electric scooters for entertainment can only be used in places for entertainment, not on the road.
