Man sets home on fire after stabbing cop and official

A MIDDLE-AGED man set fire to his apartment this morning after stabbing a neighborhood committee official and a community policeman who came to mediate a dispute between the man and his neighbor.

Police have captured the man and the two victims were not critically injured, today's Xinmin Evening News reported. The fire was later put out.

The man in his 40s lived with his parents on Yangshupu Road in Yangpu District. Neighbors complained to the neighborhood committee that he kept emptying bowls of water downstairs.

When a committee member and a policeman visited to mediate the dispute, the man became angry and used a kitchen knife to stab the official in the arm and the policeman in the stomach. He then set fire to his home.

Neighbors said the man was divorced and had no history of mental problems.
