Man stabbed in subway train

A SUBWAY passenger stabbed another commuter on Metro Line 3 yesterday following a dispute, police said.

The injured man was in a stable condition in hospital, police said, adding that the alleged attacked has been detained for inquiry.

The incident happened about 11:30am on a Line 3 train, police said. The suspect slashed the victim with a knife he was carrying onboard, police said.

An online picture post after the stabbing showed the victim using his hands to cover his injured lower belly and blood is seen dripping on a Metro platform floor. The alleged attacker was held by two other passengers before police arrived at the Shanghai Railway Station stop on Metro Line 3.

Security scans at the 200-plus subway stations citywide can weed out contraband items like explosives and knives. However, the smaller banned items are usually carried by passengers hidden in their pockets, officials said.
