Man steals to pay for online games
POLICE said today that a man has been detained on suspicion of conducting several thefts in the city to pay for online games.
The suspect, surnamed Lu, admitted he used the stolen money or goods to pay for online games at local Internet cafes, police said.
Officers said they were alerted after the man had stolen a camera and lens from a photo shop in downtown Jing'an District late in June.
Lu, 30, was caught on July 20, police said.
He once worked in Beijing in a bakery store and came to Shanghai to participate in a so-called online game competition that offered a prize of 100,000 yuan, police said.
The suspect spent almost all the time in Internet cafes for practice.
