Mayan artifacts exhibit
MEXICO Pavilion is now holding a Mayan culture exhibition. More than 50 replicas of artistic and religious works will be displayed in the pavilion's store. Meanwhile, Chejere, a band that fuses traditional Mexican music and Afro-Latin rhythms, will perform several concerts in the America Square on Monday and Tuesday.
The Mayan exhibit reflects important civilizations in Mexico dating from 1000 to 1500, as well as aspects of their daily lives, their thoughts and traditions, officials said.
Items on display include stone carvings and potteries. The artifacts frequently depict jaguars, which were considered sacred animals at that time. One jaguar statue has a human-like face and sharp buckteeth.
The exhibition will continue until June 13. The eight-member band Chejere blends dance, music and poetry in their performances.
Its shows start at 7:30pm.
