Mayor donates cash to Taiwanese children

SHANGHAI Mayor Han Zheng donated 1.5 million yuan (US$219,777) on behalf of Shanghai Red Cross to help children with hearing disorders in Taiwan this morning, on the third day of his island visit.

Han made the donation during his visit to Taipei Cheng Hsin Hospital, a rehabilitation medical center, on behalf of Shanghai Red Cross.

During his 45-minute visit, Han also enjoyed performances by a dozen children who have been treated to regain their hearing.

Through surgery and other therapies, 17 children with hearing problems from the mainland have been successfully cured in the hospital.

The mayor is scheduled to visit Taipei County and Taizhong City later today.

Dozens of leading company managers in Shanghai as well as business authority officials are also traveling with the mayor on his firstr visit to the island to seek cooperation opportunities with their Taiwan counterparts.
