McDonald's stab death suspect is arrested

THE suspect in the deadly stabbing of a McDonald's employee in the city's Xujiahui area on March 19 has been arrested under the approval of the Xuhui District Prosecutor's Office.

As a next step, prosecutors said they applied for an insanity test for the 40-year-old man surnamed Yang, who was escorted back to the city by police 10 days after he fled the scene.

Yang allegedly stabbed 22-year-old Li Feng about 4:30am on March 19 at the 24-hour McDonald's on downtown Tianyaoqiao Road.

A conflict arose when Li tried to stop Yang from sleeping in chairs, according to Li's colleagues. When the conflict heated up, Yang suddenly attacked Li with a fruit knife that he had brought with him.

Li, slashed in the neck, shoulder and liver, was pronounced dead in the hospital.

Yang was caught in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province on March 28, Shanghai Public Security Bureau said.

Li's parents said Li was a diligent boy who worked two jobs to support the family.
