Medic students lack psychological training

DOCTORS and medical students should have more special and professional psychology courses, which is still a lack in domestic medical school training and further education during their clinical practice, experts told a medical forum launched at Shanghai Traditional Chinese Medicine University.

Dr He Yumin, a TCM oncology expert and a member of Chinese Medical Association’s psychology branch, said psychology teaching at medical schools is far from enough and most doctors can’t deal with patients’ psychological problem during their practice.

“Many disputes between doctors and patients also stem from doctor’s lack of proper communication based on psychological knowledge and skills,” he said.

Officials from local medical schools said they usually offer psychological courses with two academic credits for one semester.
