Medicine lab opens in Zhangjiang
A medicine laboratory opened yesterday in Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park in Pudong to focus on the development of domestically produced innovative tumor medicines.
The global research and development center with the Shanghai-based bio-pharmaceutical company Zai Lab aims to bring out its first bio-medical product in about three years, said Du Ying, chairwoman and chief executive of the company.
The new research and development center covered 4,000 square meters and was equipped with cutting-edge facilities, Du said.
The company’s scientists would expand and integrate their current research platforms to accelerate the development on new-generation immune tumor drugs, she added.
Two new drugs have entered clinical stage and another two are under evaluation with the national food and drug administration (FDA).
More products to treat liver cancer and other tumors are under clinical studies and development.
One of its new products, which has been submitted to the Center for Drug Evaluation under the China FDA, is expected to significantly delay the growth of tumors and worsening of the disease. The central government decided to set up a “medicine valley” in the park in 1994.
