Mentally challenged teen reunites with family after being missing for 3 days

A TEENAGER with learning difficulties was reunited with his family after being missing for three days, with the help of staffers of a Metro station, the Metro operator said today.

Guo Weinan, 18, was found missing as he didn't appear at school on Friday morning. His parents and teachers posted a search notice online, which was seen by staffers of the Century Avenue Metro Station. They identified the boy on Sunday morning.

“There’s a school for mentally challenged students near our station, which we have a good relationship with,” an official with the station, Sun Chunxia, told Shanghai Daily. “On Saturday night, I saw a WeChat post from a teacher of the school, saying a student went missing, with pictures and description of him.”

Sun soon reposted the notice on her WeChat, which was seen and reposted by many other staffers of the Metro network.

“At 10am Sunday, Xia Rongbei, a colleague of mine, recognized the boy sitting on the platform of Line 9 of the station,” she said.

They soon contacted with Guo’s father. The father came to pick Guo and expressed his gratitude to the station staffers.

Guo’s father later told Shanghai Daily that his son took on a wrong bus on his way to school on Friday Morning.

"He asked others how to get back to the school, while they told him to take Metro, which is the fastest way. However, he didn’t know how to take Metro.”

The school has two campuses, one in Liuli area and the other, about 4 kilometers away, near Century Avenue. Guo goes to school in Liuli campus. It is still unknown how Guo got to Century Avenue campus, or where had he been when he was missing.

“We are all very happy that the boy reunited with his family on the Mother’s Day,” Sun said.
