Michelin: Our kids are the future, it鈥檚 time to listen to them
Themed 鈥淢ini-Superheroes Saving the Planet,鈥 the 2019 Michelin Sustainable Future English Speech Contest wrapped up last Sunday, highlighting Michelin鈥檚 firm commitment to sustainable development and safety education for children.
Organized by Michelin China together with iDEALShanghai (the online lifestyle platform of Shanghai Daily), the speech contest is intended to help kids speak out their creative ideas of saving the planet and raise social awareness of environmental protection.
The two-month competition attracted 120 participants aged from 3 to 6 to submit their speech videos online. The awards ceremony of the speech contest was held at the 鈥淓njoy the Michelin World鈥 event at the Shanghai World Expo Celebration Square on Sunday, where the 鈥淪uper Captain鈥 badges were presented to the 鈥淢ini-Superheroes.鈥
RTA students from Rainbow Tree Academy took the 鈥淢ini-Superhero of Earth鈥 prize by the highest number of votes; Lu Shixu, Sun Xiying and Li Linger won the name of 鈥淪uper Captains鈥 of the three groups focusing respectively on 鈥淕reen Travel,鈥 鈥淩oad Safety鈥 and 鈥淎nimal Conservation.鈥
To invite more kids to take part in the speech contest and gain more knowledge on environmental protection and road safety, during the competition Michelin held a promotional event which provided games such as jigsaws and matching for children to learn about road safety, eco-friendly travel and animal conservation.
Sharon Zheng, Michelin China鈥檚 brand communication and mobility experiences director, emphasized on the critical role families and enterprises played in terms of sustainable development and childhood education.
鈥淐hildren and teenagers are the future of our society and an indispensable power for realizing a sustainable future, and their enlightenment classes are not just in school. Family and society are equally important classes for them,鈥 said Zheng.
Determined to make tangible progress in educating youngsters on environmental protection and road safety, Michelin China launched this English speech contest to inspire more grown-ups to practice green and safe travel, protect the Earth and build a sustainable future.
鈥淲e believe through this contest our kids can understand better about what sustainable development is. It can also help cultivate their ideas on what is green and safe and allow them to create a more eco-friendly, secure and sustainable future with us,鈥 Zheng said.
The world leading tire company strives to support China鈥檚 sustainable future and to raise public awareness by taking multiple actions. Since its entering into the Chinese mainland 30 years ago, Michelin has been insisting on promoting sustainable mobility, road safety and environmental protection.
During the 鈥淓njoy the Michelin World鈥 event which takes place from June 6 to 16, kids are also provided with interactive activities with their parents in the Fun&Care sector to improve their traffic safety awareness in an entertaining way.
As the first large-scale public event ever held by Michelin in Shanghai, 鈥淓njoy the Michelin World鈥 presents Michelin鈥檚 focus on products and services, pleasant travel and a sustainable future and brings a rich interactive experience to the audience.
Visitors can also 鈥淓njoy the Michelin World鈥 by exploring other exhibition areas including Fun Stage, Passion Track, Gourmet Safari, Extraordinary Journey and Pilot Sport Runway, all showcasing Michelin鈥檚 innovative solutions and achievements in future sustainable mobility.
In addition, Michelin will donate all the ticket sales of this event to social welfare fields such as road safety and environmental protection.
