Migrant seeking death by kidnapping hotel worker

A man held a woman hostage at knifepoint in a hotel room for more than six hours yesterday and said his purpose to "get a gun from police to shoot himself."
The kidnapper surnamed Zhang, a 27-year-old native of Sichuan Province, was overpowered by two SWAT troopers who broke into the room simultaneously through the window and the door. The hostage was saved unscathed.
After he was caught, Zhang told police that he didn't know the woman, who was a cleaner in the hotel in Huacao Town of Minhang District. She knocked his room door for cleaning service at about 2pm yesterday.
"She said I had overstayed and should pay extra. I suddenly had the idea of kidnapping her," Zhang told the police.
Zhang said he kidnapped the woman not for ransom but to seek "death" for himself.
