Mini fire stations
SHANGHAI plans to build small-scale fire stations at downtown Metro stations, high-rises and transport hubs to provide better responses to emergencies. The city has 72 new fire engines equipped with compressed air foam, high water towers and ladders to put out fires in high-rises, the city fire department said yesterday. It's the latest move to improve city safety in the wake of the high-rise inferno that killed 58 people in Jing'an District in late 2010. New fire equipment will be added to city's 700 aged high-rises - those built more than 20 years ago. Fire engines often have difficulty reaching traffic hubs like Metro stations with the roads and passages blocked.
