Modern services for Jiading
KNOWN for its automobile industry, Jiading New City is endeavoring to cash in on modern services for future growth.
"The new city is a platform for us to restructure industry and urbanize further," said Jin Jianzhong, deputy to the Shanghai People's Congress and Party secretary of Jiading District.
"The metro will link the new city in the suburbs to downtown," Jin said. "It's a sound base for Shanghai to improve its economic structure."
Line 11 now links the northwestern district to downtown. The first phase of Line 11 started trial operation at the end of December.
"Line 11 is great," said Huang Wufeng, a 20-year-something Jiading resident. "Now I can easily reach Lujiazui in Pudong New Area in an hour. It took at least two hours before Line 11 was available."
Big shopping malls, branded hotels and forest parks will be the main attractions in Jiading New City. Sports facilities, centered around the Formula 1 race track, is another selling point.
"We have several projects in Jiading New City," said Zhang Yuliang, chairman and president of Greenland Group, a major Shanghai-based developer. "The urbanization of rural districts is the trend. We are bullish on the future of these cities."
The district has an ambitious development blueprint, using the Jiading New City development to benefit existing towns like Anting and Nanxiang.
Anting will cement its status as the home of an international automobile zone while Nanxiang becomes a residential area.
In the automobile zone, Jiading has improved its environment for auto business, exhibitions, e-commerce as well as finance and international trade.
The 8-square-kilometer zone is now home to 333 companies.
Housing prices have risen in Jiading.
