Mom with leukemia leaves her family
A young mother has left her home and her seven-month-old son to avoid burdening her family after she was diagnosed with leukemia.
The family and friends are looking for the woman, Cao Lu, 23, by spreading her data and pictures online. The story touched hundreds of thousands of netizens, who are praying for her and joining in the search.
Cao, an employee of Ping An Insurance (Group) Company of China, sells auto insurance. Her company has promised to help cover her medical expenses, family members said.
Cao left her house last Thursday, leaving a letter to tell family members she had the disease and about her decision. "I don't have the courage to tell you all the things," she wrote. "I chose to die alone."
Cao was born into a poor family in Anhui Province. She has been in bad health in recent months, always feeling tired and having frequent nosebleeds, said her father-in-law, Liu Wenqing.
After she was diagnosed with the disease, she didn't disclose it to her family. Instead, she left quietly, without taking money or her identity card. She asked her family members to take good care of the boy, who was still breast feeding.
After she left, Cao once called back, asking to listen to her son's voice. But her cell phone went dead after that.
Her husband collapsed after she left and cried whenever he saw their baby, family members said. So the mother-in-law is now taking care of her grandson. The father lives in one room while the grandmother lives in another room with the baby.
Liu has gone to Cao's hometown to look for her.
