More residents plan overseas trips
SHANGHAI has seen a 27 percent rise in the number of citizens planning an overseas trip.
Last year, 454,000 people applied for their passports, nearly 27 percent higher than in 2008, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported, citing data from the Shanghai Exit-Entry Administration Bureau.
Those applying for visas to Hong Kong and Macau reached 1.05 million, 15 percent higher than the previous year.
Citizens traveling to Taiwan skyrocketed to 78,000, more than triple the number in 2008 following an increase of direct air flights from the mainland.
