Muji claims CCTV program on its products got it wrong
Muji Shanghai has responded to China Central Television’s annual “3.15” quality investigation program last night by claiming that the CCTV misunderstood the registration place of its imported foods sold in China.
CCTV reported that Muji stores in China were selling food items imported from areas around Fukushima in Japan in contravention of a ban by China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.
The ban was imposed by the administration following radiation concerns after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in 2011.
The two imported food products shown in the program were cereal beverage and muffin. They were manufactured in Fukui-ken and Osaka prefectures, Muji said. It also attached the certification of the place of origin for the products in the statement.
CCTV has not responded so far.
