Mum has rat-bitten nose repaired to get son back

A 24-year-old woman whose nose was bitten off by a rat when she was a baby received a free plastic surgery today to restore her nose so that she no longer needs to wear a mask when going out with her son.

Dr Jiang Hua at Shanghai Yilaimei Plastic Surgery Hospital said the woman will have a natural-looking nose after the surgery.

Zhong Li, a Sichuan Province native, said that it was her biggest dream to have a nose and her son would not live in nightmare and be laughed by others for having a mother without a nose.

Zhong herself had a bad childhood and her parents often scolded each other for the accident that took place in 1988 when Zhong, just three months old, was left alone at home as her parents worked in the field. When they came home, Zhong's nose was already bitten off.

Zhong suffered humiliation at school, but she married a man in the same factory in 2010 and the couple moved to Shanghai because the man's family was strongly opposed to their marriage. Now they have a one-year-old son.

Zhong's mother-in-law took the boy home last December for fear Zhong's appearance will affect the boy's life and promised to send the boy back if she can have a nose. So, the couple came to Shanghai Yilaimei for help and was given a surgery for free.
