NZ to offer 2-year visa for multiple entries

NEW Zealand soon will allow Chinese visitors to visit the country multiple times on a single, two-year visa in an effort to increase tourism from China.

The new multi-entry visitor visa will take effect on May 1, extending multiple entries of individual Chinese visitors to 24 months from the current 12 months.

The policy applies only to individual visitors instead of travel groups.

New Zealand hopes to attract more Chinese tourists to experience in-depth tours, the nation's officials said.

Some travel websites like the Shanghai branch of tuniu.com, a leading travel website in China, said they plan to add more routes to New Zealand for individual tourists. There has been a rapid increase in Chinese tourism to New Zealand in recent years, which the new visa policy is expected to further boost, tuniu.com officials said. The company saw a 60 percent surge in consultation and reservations to New Zealand by Chinese tourists in March compared to March 2012.

Tours to New Zealand usually last eight to 11 days, and cost from 11,000 yuan (US$1,778) to 17,000 yuan.
