Network hookup to boost hospital efficiency
LOCAL hospitals are speeding up the integration of their information systems to improve clinical efficiency, avoid repeat tests, and cut patient waiting time.
Huadong Hospital used a Microsoft software to integrate its information system with that of its branches in three different districts. A patient's medical history and test results can be seen by doctors in any of the four hospitals.
Previously, patients going to different hospitals had to take same tests again.
"Moreover, a unified platform is good for diagnosis, treatment and nursing care. It can improve hospital management because it measures staff performance using the same indicators," said Zhu Huili, Huadong's vice president.
"The information system can benefit a hospital group which consists of a city-level hospital, several district-level hospitals and numerous community hospitals," Zhu added. "Patients too will benefit because it saves their time, energy and money."
Long queues are a common sight in city-level hospitals. A research found local patients have to queue 2.8 times per visit on average.
