New Huangpu District Party chief appointed

The Party chief of Zhabei District was appointed the new head of Huangpu District, while the top official of the city’s construction commission was named acting director.

The city government announced the appointments to replace the district’s former top two leaders after they were sacked this morning over the deadly Bund stampede on December 31.

Weng Zuliang, 52, was named the new head of Huangpu. He had been the Party chief of Zhabei District since April 7, 2013. The Fujian Province native was once the deputy Party chief, deputy director and acting director of Luwan District, which merged with Huangpu District in 2011.

Tang Zhiping, 50, was named Huangpu’s acting director. He had served as director of the Shanghai Urban and Rural Construction and Management Committee since February 2014. The Shanghai native once served as director of the Shanghai Commodity Price Bureau in 2011 and deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Development and Reform Commission.
