New Metro line to link city with Taicang
The Metro line planned to link Shanghai’s two western districts, Jiading and Minhang, the J-M Line, will be connected to Taicang City in neighboring Jiangsu Province, in the region’s latest effort to integrate its transportation infrastructure.
The project was included in a new planning document published by the National Development and Reform Commission and the ministry of transportation.
This is an important project that will facilitate travel in the Yangtze River Delta region as the J-M Line will pass Hongqiao Railway Station.
It’s estimated that travel time from Taicang to downtown Shanghai will be cut to under one hour after the Metro line is completed.
Also, the line will connect with the Shanghai-Nantong Railway and the railway from Shanghai to Changzhou, another city in Jiangsu, via Suzhou and Wuxi.
On completion, it will be the second Metro line to extend to a neighboring province, after Line 11 that has three stations in Huaqiao Town of Kunshan City in Jiangsu.
The city government plans to start construction of the J-M Line before 2023, and it will take six years to complete the project.
