Newlyweds encounter problems on their big day in various ways

Apart from accidents, bad services can hinder wedding couples.

A couple living in the city's Yangpu District sued a master of ceremonies who did not show up on their wedding day due to personal matters, which delayed the ceremony for more than 90 minutes and changed its nature so that it ended in a simple and hasty way.

Liu Wei, the absent MC, was ordered to pay 2,500 yuan (US$397) to the couple under a ruling by the Yangpu District People's Court.

In another case, a local couple were taken in by an unlicensed wedding agency that hired a video team to record their whole wedding day but gave the couple a disc containing footage lasting only half an hour.

"Few couples get their troubles resolved in court, as many choose to make a deal privately," said Chen Weihua, a local court official.

Last year, Shanghai topped all cities on the Chinese mainland for wedding costs. A wedding banquet in Shanghai cost 3,360 yuan per table, while that for Beijing and Hangzhou were 2,200 yuan and 2,500 yuan, respectively, according to the Shanghai Wedding Trade Association.
