Nine Shanghai hikers missing in Zhejiang
NINE Shanghai hikers have been missing in a mountainous area in Zhejiang Province since Saturday.
Six men and three women went to Niutou Mountain in Wuyi County, about 350 kilometers from Shanghai, on Saturday morning, Eastday.com reported today.
According to plan they should have returned to Shanghai that afternoon, but the driver hired by the hikers received a call about 11pm on Saturday saying they had got lost. The driver didn't call police until 10:20am yesterday.
Rescuers managed to contact the hikers at 12:10pm and determined their location, asking them to wait for rescue at the site. The first rescue team set out at 1:40pm and three other teams went searching for the hikers last night.
It started to snow in the morning and heavy fog fell at the same time, which made the rescue work difficult. The snow was more than 10 centimeters thick on the mountain. Rescue efforts are continuing.
