No fireworks lit in downtown area during Spring Festival

THE fireworks ban in Shanghai has proved effective as local police received zero reports of lighting fireworks in downtown districts during the Spring Festival holiday, police said on Friday.

The patrol officers, armed police and firefighters were on full duty during the holiday, with the help of 300,000 community volunteers, according to the police.

The number of fire alarms local fire bureau received during the holiday dropped 23.1 percent compared with the same period last year.
