No foreigners infected in city
NO foreigners or residents from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan in Shanghai have been infected with the coronavirus, Zhang Xiaosong, director of the Shanghai Foreign Affairs Office, said yesterday.
Furthermore, no infections have been reported from Shanghai residents overseas.
Zhang said there are about 200,000 foreigners living in Shanghai and the office has been updating information in Chinese, English, French, Japanese and Korean on its website since February 1.
The 12345 hotline offers 24-hour advice for foreigners and a team of volunteers assist hotline staff in answering questions in seven languages — English, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish and Russian, said Zhang.
He said the city has organized meetings with consulates to help expats understand the situation and live with confidence.
There are altogether 78 consulates in Shanghai and six have suspended visa services. Some have made adjustments to their services. Zhang said the city will help them resume normal operations as soon as possible.
