Oasis adds more to top venue
THE Saudi Arabia Pavilion has opened a rooftop oasis, complete with dozens of palm trees and a traditional Bedouin tent.
The setup will allow more visitors to enter the star-attraction pavilion that involves queuing for more than five-hours.
The rooftop garden gives visitors a bird's eye view of the China Pavilion, the Huangpu River and pavilions on the Puxi site.
The Saudi Pavilion has opened the garden as an initial test to improve facilities for visitors.
Visitors will be invited to the rooftop after seeing the 15-minute panoramic movie, the current biggest attraction of the pavilion.
It was widely welcomed by the visitors but some said it was hot in the scorching Shanghai summer sun.
The exotic tent, yet to open, is planned to offer visitors a cup of coffee. It is about 1.5-meter high and visitors will be able to gather inside sitting on mats.
A dozen palm trees were erected on the roof, providing some shade, but far from shielding visitors against the searing sunshine.
Despite the heat, many people visited the garden several times yesterday, said a staff member surnamed Zhang.
"The movie shows scenes of the country while the new garden is realistic with the tent and trees," said Gary Wolfson, a United States visitor.
