Official on Interpol wanted list

INTERPOL has placed on its wanted list a former senior official with China's largest securities firm alleged to have been involved in fraud and insider trading.

Xie Fenghua, former executive manager of investment department of Citic Securities Co, is on Interpol's "red notice," Securities Times reported yesterday.

Meanwhile, Xie's second wife, An Xuemei, former executive director of Huatai Securities Co, has been arrested for inside trading.

The Interpol listing could provide worldwide assistance to Shanghai police in locating Xie with a view to his arrest and extradition.

The Securities Times report said Xie fled China to New Zealand in March last year.

He is said to be with his first wife and child there, according to the report.

The paper said Xie and An may have taken advantage of Xie's role in restructuring plans of Shanghai-listed Zhejiang WHWH Industry Co and Haitong Group by buying shares before plans were announced.

An is said to have made 1.67 million yuan (US$265,923) between May and August 2009.
