Officials punished for failing to take action
Six local officials in district and town government departments, as well as a number of others, have been warned and punished in three cases, Shanghai鈥檚 discipline inspection and supervisory authorities have announced.
Their deeds included doing nothing in response to public complaints, being derelict of duty and making a false statement.
According to the CPC Shanghai Commission for Discipline Inspection, Shi Bin, deputy head of Chongming District Environmental Protection Bureau, and others were punished for making no effort to solve pollution and noise problems caused by a brick-and-tile factory in Xinhe Town.
Since 2016, the district鈥檚 environmental inspection group received complaints several times from residents about the factory鈥檚 dust emissions and noise pollution.
However, the authorities didn鈥檛 take any action until the problems were publicized by local media in April last year.
Zhu Xing, former Party secretary of Minzhu Village in Qingpu District, also received a warning after he lied about a company鈥檚 condition.
The transport company was written into a list of companies ordered to shut down by the city鈥檚 environmental bureau in December 2016. However, in April 2017, Zhu concealed that the company was still running and said the rectifications were all completed in his report.
