One killed in toppled apartment building in Shanghai

MAYOR Han Zheng ordered a full investigation after a 13-storey building which is under construction toppled early this morning. A construction worker was killed.

The accident happened at about 6 am, when the building in the "lotus riverside" neighborhood of Minhang District fell down.

The worker, who was said to have gone into the building to fetch his tools, was killed inside the building.

The residential area has eight buildings. The toppled building was due to be delivered to its buyers in May, 2010. It is said that the average price of the building was 18,000 yuan (US$2,635) per square meter.
