Pandas dance to celebrate Chengdu's day
DOZENS of pandas jumping about and dancing on the Expo site's City Plaza attracted crowds of visitors yesterday in celebration of Chengdu City Day.
It was just like a scene from the movie "Kung Fu Panda" and the show was performed by artists from Sichuan Province.
Chengdu City Day also celebrated the city's friendship with Brussels and Shanghai.
A panda costume was put on the "Manneken Pis," the famous Brussels landmark, and an exhibition of calligraphy, painting and photos called "Beautiful Dujiangyan" tells the story of the city's reconstruction, aided by Shanghai, after the devastating earthquake.
Yesterday also saw the start of a month of promotions where visitors can taste the best of Chengdu cuisine.
The Living Water Park of the provincial capital selected for the Expo Urban Best Practices Area is a smaller version of the water park on the banks of the Jinjiang river in Chengdu.
The 12-year-old park contains an artificial wetland working as a natural water purification system, to demonstrate how polluted and dead water can be cleaned in an ecologically friendly way.
The model at Expo is composed of nine vegetation ponds and 18 vegetation beds, which can help purify water through several processes at low cost.
