YOUNG lovers are advised to keep an eye on their belongings when they are head over heels in love in local parks.
Jing'an District judges just sentenced a thief to five months in detention for stealing a handbag from a Chinese woman who was dating her Italian boyfriend.
The 45-year-old thief surnamed Xu said he was wandering in Jing'an Park on January 16 when he saw the couple chatting on a bench. He sneaked to their back and took the woman's handbag. But the woman soon found her handbag was missing and her boyfriend was able to capture Xu before he left the park. The thief was also fined 1,000 yuan (US$158), the judges said.
