Passengers protest in airport over delay

About 20 angry passengers refused to board an airplane at noon today and went onto a taxiway at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport to demand compensation for their delayed flight, airport authority said.

An Etihad Airways plane had to stop taxiing about 200 meters away from this group of protestors, and officials were dispatched to persuade them to leave the taxiway and bring them back to the terminal building.

The incident lasted about five minutes and didn't affect other flights, airport officials said.

The protestors were among 161 passengers who took a flight from Shenzhen to Nanjing last night but landed in Shanghai at 8pm due to bad weather. Their plane was delayed again as Pudong was hit by a thunderstorm. The passengers were led to a nearby hotel to sleep.

Their plane was scheduled to leave for Nanjing at 11am today, but the angry passengers refused to board the airplane and demanded the airlines to compensate for their delay.
