'Passports' center stage

IF you want to travel around the world in one single city, you should visit the Shanghai World Expo.

But if you want to prove you have traveled "around the world," you must have an "Expo Passport" with seals of different pavilions of participating countries at the Expo site.

In the first two days of the six-month event, the Expo Passport has proved enormously popular with hundreds of thousands of visitors.

Expo organizers have prepared four versions of the Expo Passport, including a yellow children's edition.

The Expo Passport looks much like a real passport, with personal information and serial numbers. They sell for 30 yuan (US$4.40) each.

In addition to Expo mascot Haibao, the Expo Passport is among the best-sellers at Expo site shops, according to store managers.

"For organizers, the passport enables us to help regulate tourist flow," said Huang Jianzhi, deputy director of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination.

"Visitors will go to more pavilions to collects seals."
