Pharma industry grows more innovative

THE pharmaceutical industry in China is fast becoming more mature and professional, officials from Shanghai Food and Drug Administration told the China Pharmaceutical Sales and Marketing Excellence Summit ended in Shanghai today.

Already it is turning from a market-oriented model to clinical demand-oriented and turning from making imitation medicines to innovative drug development with own intellectual property rights, while the government and companies are increasing investment on research and development, officials said.

Launched by Global Intelligence Communications and the China International Health Industry Association, government officials and pharmaceutical companies gathered at the summit to discuss challenges and new trends in the industry.

With fewer profitable channels, government and regulatory spending pressures and the rising demand for return on investment, pharmaceutical companies are forced to change their business models and focus on development policies.
