Pharmacies share data of fever patients
ABOUT 4,000 retail pharmacies across Shanghai have gathered information from customers with fevers who have purchased medicine since January 23, which has been submitted to the city’s drug authorities, the Shanghai Drug Administration announced yesterday
“If customers with fever, cough or cold symptoms visit a drugstore and purchase medicine, we ask them for information, such as their name, age, ID card number and cell phone number,” said pharmacist Liu Jiamei, who works at a Guoda Pharmacy outlet in Jing’an District.
“The information is reported to the administration via a registration-and-report system, and we encourage sick customers to visit nearby Changzheng Hospital,” said Liu.
The collected information is checked by the Shanghai Drug Administration and shared with health authorities and police. People suspected of carrying the virus have been quarantined for medical observation, according to Wu Lingyun, Party secretary of the Nanjing Road W. Market Regulation Station.
Visitors to drugstores in the city are required to have their temperatures taken before entering. Guoda’s Shanghai outlets have ceased online purchases of fever-related medicines.
