Philadelphia Orchestra Signs On
THE Philadelphia Orchestra yesterday agreed to perform at the 2010 World Expo on May 7.
It has inked a contract with the Expo organizer to become the first United States artistic performer to sign up for the event.
The concert will be held at the Expo Performance Center, which is now under construction and will seat 18,000 when completed.
Charles Dutoit, the orchestra's chief conductor from Switzerland, will twirl the baton for its Expo performance. No extra fees will be charged for the orchestral concert, apart from the price of Expo admission, but bookings will be essential.
Some guest musicians will be invited to perform with the orchestra.
These may include Chinese pianist Lang Lang, said Stephen Millen, deputy president of the orchestra.
