Pipe project for cleaner tap water makes good start
THE first 840-meters part on a water pipe project to connect to water resources from upstream of Huangpu River has been successfully placed between Maodao and Shimao highway in Songjiang District by this morning, 10 days ahead of schedule, construction contractors said.
The steel pipes are 4 meters in diameter, the largest of its kind in current water system locally, said Shanghai Urban Construction Municipal Engineering Co.
It is now preparing for construction of 380 meters of pipelines under the G60 Expressway, which will kick off after the Spring Festival and use pipes 4.2 meters in diameter to protect the 4-meter inner tubes, it said.
The Huangpu River Upstream Water Source Project will include a new Jinze reservoir along the Taipu River in Qingpu District and 42 kilometers of pipelines, is due for completion by the end of next year. It is expected to supply residents in suburban Jinshan, Fengxian, Songjiang, Minhang and Qingpu districts with cleaner water.
