Pizza Hut puts customers' private info at risk: report
PIZZA Hut yesterday announced it would better safeguard the private information of its customers after a media report claimed that personal details could be accessed on the fast-food chain's website.
If customer information is at risk, the website will be improved immediately, Pizza Hut said in a statement yesterday.
CCTV reported on Saturday that Pizza Hut's online ordering system wasn't safe, claiming they got the address of one customer after typing in her phone number on the website.
The customer, surnamed Sun, told CCTV she ordered from Pizza Hut by phone once and had no idea how her address became available on the website.
"It is not known how the address was found because the ordering website covers key numbers of all addresses, phone numbers and e-mails," Pizza Hut said in the statement.
After typing a customer's phone number on the website, www.4008123123.com, part of the address where the food was delivered last time will appear on the website, but some numbers of the address are covered by asterisks, according to a Shanghai Daily investigation.
For instance, one customer address was displayed as "Room *01, Floor *3, 575 Pudong Road S." after the phone number is entered.
"The design was for the convenience of our customers because they don't need to type in their address again if they want the food delivered to the same place," Pizza Hut said.
