Police detain 3 for producing adulterated products
SHANGHAI police said last night they detained three suspects for producing adulterated and illegal bean and sweet potato starch sheets in a rental house in Pudong.
The suspects, led by a woman surnamed Yang, added super scale antiseptic into their tofu products. They lasted for one week, which was unusually high for normal bean starch.
The illegal products were discovered on Sunday in six markets in Pudong and local police traced down the suspects in Caolu Town. Nearly 1.8 tons of unqualified bean products and nearly 10 tons of raw materials were found at their place. All the three suspects were caught on the spot.
"One illegal additive is ammonium aluminum sulfate and the other one is potassium sorbate," police officer Tao Weiliang said. "That is more than allowed."
