Pudong District police say today they will intensify crackdown on drunk driving as year-end banquets and parties are likely to give rise to the traffic crime.

A two-month crackdown on drunk driving will start today, targeting drivers of all kinds of motor vehicles including scooters and mopeds.

So far this month, Pudong police have nabbed 24 people for drunk driving. This Monday night, they caught a driver on Yanchao Highway near Hangao Road. The man's blood alcohol content reached 1.34mg/ml. He will face six months of detention.

Last Wednesday, a scooter rider in his late 60s was caught at the intersection of Lingshan Road and Minsheng Road. His blood alcohol content was tested 0.45mg/ml.

Under the Chinese law, a driver will be punished for drunk driving if his blood alcohol content is over 0.2mg/ml.
