Police pleain forged plate case

POLICE are seeking more information after they detained a man alleged to have been selling fake police credentials and forged car plates.

The man, surnamed Yao, was caught at an Internet cafe in Zhabei District earlier this month. Police said a fake government seal was also found at his home.

On April 20, police spotted a car with a non-local police plate in Putuo District when they were at patrol. When questioned, the driver, surnamed Zhang, pretended to be a policeman and showed them his credentials. But they, and the plate, were fake.

Zhang admitted he bought a number of fake police items - car plate, driving license, credentials and law enforcement permit, from a man, alleged to be Yao, in February.

He paid 1,400 yuan (US$206) and his intention was to use forged items to swindle money.

With Zhang's confession, and after further investigation, police focused on Yao.

They are urging anyone with information about or who has been offered faked police items to dial 6232-5322.
