Police thwart phone swindles

PUDONG New Area police have thwarted three telephone swindle cases involving 450,000 yuan (US$65,784), officials said yesterday.

In one case, a 52-year-old woman received a call from a man claiming to be a prosecutor. He said her bank account was at risk. She was stopped by police while trying to send her life savings to the "prosecutor's" safe account.
