Porn on the phone is cut off
THE city's biggest mobile WAP site containing more than 4,000 pornographic ebooks accessible via mobile phones has finally been shutdown, police said yesterday.
A man surnamed Long, who ran the site, was sentenced to 10 months in prison after he was caught in his hometown in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on July 13.
Police said Long had registered the network servers in Guangdong and Hunan provinces and Shanghai using fake details, which hampered the investigation.
Long uploaded the pornographic books and shared them with mobile phone users via his site, named "Banned Books of South China."
Police officials said the crackdown on the site was part of a city-wide battle against mobile phone porn.
About 1,900 Websites containing pornographic and improper content accessible via mobile phones have been shut down so far this year, the city's telecommunications authorities said.
