Pottery master shows the way

VISITORS to the Ukraine Pavilion can try their hand making pottery with the on-site help of Ukrainian master Sergey Gorban.

The 37-year-old folk craftsman will perform an art show through to the end of the Expo and guide visitors how to make traditional Ukrainian pottery.

"People can work with me and can also take the vase home if they like. But it takes at least two days because I'll have to burn the clay pots for them in the kiln," Gorban said yesterday in a show.

The master has brought some of his art to the Expo, including the statue of famous ancient warrior Kossac Mamay who features in Ukrainian folklore.

"My country's pottery craft has a long history of almost 5,000 years and Ukraine's rich and vast earth gives the art an even stronger life," he said.

"China is also known for its pottery art and we'd like to share this with Chinese artists," he added.
