Premiership trophy gets a faraway mantle
LOCAL English football fans will get a chance to glimpse the trophy of the Premier League without leaving Shanghai.
The Premiership Trophy is coming to the United Kingdom Pavilion from 1pm to 3pm on Thursday in the pavilion's City Park, authorities said yesterday.
It's the first time the trophy has come to China and during the exhibition, visitors may be chosen to get their pictures taken with the trophy in the pavilion's VIP room, authorities said yesterday.
Robert Morrice, chairman and chief executive of the Barclays Plc Asia Pacific, which is sponsoring the trophy appearance, said soccer has always been a part of British culture, and showing the trophy is a way of sharing one of the most passionate sports to the world.
Meantime, the UK pavilion is running an interactive event that allows local football fans to upload pictures on a Website of themselves or others watching or playing football.
Entrants are eligible to win a four-day trip to the UK. The winner will get two round-trip tickets to London, complete with hotel accommodation and two Premier League tickets.
