Prison bureau releases book about inmates
INMATE Liu Wei received a divorce lawsuit from his wife three years ago while serving an eight-year sentence for embezzlement, according to a new book compiled by the Shanghai Prison Administration Bureau.
The book debuted today and features 51 stories about local prisons helping inmates to solve personal problems.
In Liu's case, the 30-year-old had only served 18 months of his sentence and had a 1-year-old daughter with his wife.
He became emotional and absent-minded during labor work, which aroused the attention of prison guards.
The guards found Liu's wife and discovered she wanted a divorce because she didn't want her daughter to have a father who was a criminal.
The prison guards organized a special meeting for the couple and Liu's wife finally withdrew the lawsuit last year and never mentioned the divorce again.
