Prostitute killer suspect traced by DNA
A MAN suspected of killing a prostitute eight years ago in Shanghai has been traced through a DNA sample recorded by police, Putuo District officers said today.
The suspect, Qian Baogang, was exposed after police investigated a theft in which he was involved.
The victim was found dead in a Putuo residential building with fatal knife injuries on February 3, 2002. She was 27.
Qian, 31, was identified as his DNA sample from blood matched the one left at the crime scene, police said.
Qian told police that he targeted the woman in a planned robbery to "get some money before going back to his hometown" ahead of the Spring Festival in 2002.
